Biotechnology is a scientific discipline basic for the country’s development and relevant throughout the world. Cicy’s Biotechnology Unit carries out research projects that are both creative and innovative, directed at manipulating and using living beings in order to produce goods and services relevant to Mexican society, to protect the environment while giving impulse to national economic growth. The Unit has now a well established prestige as a solid research group working mainly in three fields of endeavor:

  • Molecular Plant Engineering
  • Micropropagation Integral Systems
  • Biopharmaceutical and Biopesticide products

Among our main strengths counts the excellence of our academic staff. All researchers hold a PhD degree and participate actively both at financed research and in teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels. They currently publish at the best national and international magazines. They are supported by technicians of the highest capacity and training. Researchers both cooperate internally and with highly regarded institutions in the country and abroad. Some examples are the National Genomics and Biodiversity Laboratory (LANGEBIO),The National Forestry, Agricultural and Husbandry Research Institute (INIFAP), the autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), Merida’s Technology Institute (ITM), Conkal’s Technology Institute (ITC), San Luis Potosí Research Center for Science and Technology (IPICYT), University of Texas (UAS), Leicester University (UK), Queen Mary University of London (UK), Max Planck Institute (Germany), etc. Some of its researchers are also integrated in international consortia for the genomic sequencing of diverse organisms.
